I'm leaving Ukraine, but taking the memories with me. Here are some fun things I learned about the country.

1. Europe in general has a great sense of portion control when it comes to food.  Sure, initially I get disappointed by the size of my tiny scoop of gelato when I order it.  But then I remember it's actually how much I should eat.

2. Giving away food or things without something in return isn't generally done.  Neighbors don't like to feel as if they "owe you something".

3.  The village we lived in had what I called a cow daycare.  Someone watches all the cows in the field and all the owners take turns.  Then when the parents comes to pick up the cows to come home, the cows know and go to their moms and dads.  It's like a cow parade in the morning.

4. People take pilgrimages for miles to recently discovered catacombs during any holy celebration to find healing and deliverance.  It's likely they go to find hope in the place and not Jesus, but that's a whole different story.

5.  Don't plan on doing anything in your yard on the Sabbath.  It will offend the neighbors. Do your work in your house.

6. Never sit on the ground!  Especially women.  It will make you unfertile.

7. Never catch a chill or be in the wind.  At best you will get the flu and I hear at worst you may be paralyzed.

8.  Homes have money trees.  If it dies, the family will go broke.  I never saw one, but I've heard it's another old wives' tale.

9.  Don't  whistle indoors!  It will bring bad luck.  Expect horrified looks if you do.

10.  Many bathrooms are not labeled.  No more lines, women!

11. Lviv and it's amazing coffee houses and chocolate factories.  Well done!  My favorite coffee house was the Coffee Mining Company.  They give you helmets to go down to the mine where they mine the coffee;)
