Dear Recess Monitor,

Yesterday I saw a girl lose a piece of her innocence.  I am not sure if you are aware, but you have children who molest other children on the playground and often.

But yesterday I saw it happen.  Between her horrified screams, her torn dress and a circle of peers looking on, my heart ached.  I wonder if yours does too.

And what is an onlooker supposed to do?  Some laughed.  Some watched in fear and glad it wasn't them.  Some didn't understand.

Dear Recess Monitor,

My friend Kara cradled her in her arms as she sobbed.  She held her hand as she walked her all the way home.  Her heart ached for her.  I wonder if yours does too.

I ran after the boy.  I yelled for his friends to bring him back to me after he dashed off.  I frightened them all.

When I found him, I took hold of his hand.  We sat on the ground.  We cried and prayed.  My heart aches for him and is furious with him.  I wonder if yours is too.

Dear Recess Monitor,

It all happened 10 feet from the preschool window.

Dear Recess Monitor,

Will there be someone there next time a child needs someone to cradle her in her sobs?  Will there be someone to chase after the boy who hasn't been taught good things and teach him a better way?

Dear Recess Monitor,

There were only 7.
