My journey from a dry spiritual season of about 8 years began a climb to a more intimate relationship with Christ back in February of 2011. God had already begun the change in my heart the year before so that I was ready to hear His very quiet voice for the first time in my life in a very specific way.
He told me to fast and pray for my roommate to get a job. It was that specific. It was that direct. There I was in church. A missionary had come and spoke about missionary types of things, but I didn’t hear them because God's voice was clearer. He didn’t tell me to go into all the world to preach the gospel or to give money to this missionary. God’s words to me at that moment didn't make sense. I hadn’t really fasted in well over 10 years or been concerned about my roommate’s situation.
I wasn’t about to argue. I just went with it. The story is simple. It ends simple. My roommate and I fasted and prayed 3 days. She had been trying and waiting after college for 3 years for a job with only 1 interview. In 3 days, God supplied 1 interview the day we ended and was all she needed.
His voice is real. His voice is power. His voice is quiet. If you obey it, you may see a path open up to the high places. Just don't miss out. He's probably up to something. I will not say that it is an easy path to listen and obey. Pain and suffering have been my friends when I have chosen to listen and obey on the path to the high places. But looking back and seeing where He brought me from brings joy to the journey.
“The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Hab 3:19
