You are probably thinking “Stop praying?!” Prayer is one of the most vital parts in our relationship with God. Yes it is and I know the power of prayers is undeniable. Now before you start judging me and question my salvation because I am writing nonsense, hear me out and read on.
” I will be praying!” “Let me know if you need anything.” or my favorite “I am here for you.” Not sure if you can hear the sarcasm in my writing but I am kinda tired of the talk.
If your friend just called you up hysterically crying because her husband walked out on her, stop praying and get your sweet self over to her house with chocolate and armed with scripture.
You know that person in your life who can hardly pay the bills and can’t catch a breath. Stop praying and start paying some bills for him or her.
Maybe you constantly pray for all the poor children in this world, the ones that are starving to death. How about you pray to adopt one and than actually take action.
Scripture is full of walking the walk, talking the talk! Not so much!
“What good is it my dear brothers and sisters, if you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing and you say.”Goodbye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well-but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. “
James 2:14-17
The Lord spoke to the prophet Isaiah
“Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.”
Isaiah 1:17
When I read about Jesus and look at his life I see nothing but a sacrificial servants heart. Yes Jesus prayed to the Father. He went away in solitude to be filled with Gods wisdom and His will. The difference between many so called “Christians” and Jesus is that He never stopped taking action. He never stopped feeding the hungry, He never stopped healing the sick and He never stopped showing up. A life of faith without action and fruit is dead.
I am shocked when I see peoples ignorance and selfishness. They rather turn the other way or say a quick “I will be praying” instead of being the answered prayer. Side note again, when I say ignorant and self-absorbed I include myself in this. Compared to Jesus we are all scumbags!
Think about it. What if God actually answers prayer through people. God works through people so what if you are the answer to a desperate prayer? What if God wants to use you to answer someones heartfelt prayer? God equipped you with resources to be the light to others. Your gifts and so called “blessings” are not your own, God gave them to you to glorify Him and to let others know about His Love for them. Nothing you own or are equipped with is your own! It all belongs to God!
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other, just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. “
Matthew 13 : 34-35
Here you have it! Jesus himself says love each other so the world will see you belong to me. He doesn’t say pray for each other and be still.
How does your love look like? Does it say- let me know if you need anything or does it washes someones feet and dries someones tears at 4am.
Love Jen
