Words-spoken quickly, forgotten tomorrow but burned into hearts forever.

The tongue-a powerful weapon, so small but what enormous damage it can do.
James 3 dedicates a whole chapter on the mighty influence of the tongue

“So also the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A great forest can be set on fire by one tiny spark.”

James 3:5

That forest fire can devour life. It can destroy and break hearts and put people into years of bondage and shame. A tiny tool, that carries the power of life and death.

Words are meant to be a beautiful gift from God. We can encourage and edify the body of Christ. A word spoken at the right time can bring a friend from darkness to light again. Children thrive of exhortation and bloom if loving words are spoken into them. A women glows with joy if she finally hears the three words. Words hold so much weight, that “I do” is more than just a vow. It is the beginning of a lifelong covenant.
The words that have been declared over us will shape our lives. They will often define who we think we are.

God used words to speak the universe into existence. Mighty words were spoken on that day of creation.

Then God said, “Let there be light.”
Genesis 1:3
And God said, ” Let the vapors separate to form the sky above and the oceans below.”
Genesis 1:6
Then God said, ” Let the water beneath the sky be gathered into oceans so that the dry land will emerge.
Genesis 1:9

Then God said , “Let us make a man-someone like ourselves, to be the master of all life upon earth and in the skies and in the seas.”
Genesis 1:26

What do those passages have in common?! God declared and then He followed through with standing by His word. He showed integrity and the heaviness of His words were not just wasted breath but He created something incredibly beautiful.

At the beginning life was perfect for Adam and Eve. They had perfect peace, an intimate relationship with God and more than they could ever wish for. But even back then satan knew how to deceive. It were a few words that turned the whole world into a hot mess. A few doubts planted in the minds of the first humans. Even though Eve knew she shouldn’t eat from the tree, the serpent made her question every good and perfect thing.

“Really?” he asked. “None of the fruit in the garden.? God says, you mustn’t eat any of it?”
Genesis 3:1

Words that planted seeds of fear, doubt and selfishness. Words that destroyed a whole human race and made them fall into wickedness and evil.

We can use our words to heal or destroy. To build up or to tear down. Plant seeds of truth or lies. To bless or curse. To love or hate. To pray or poison. Give hope or despair. Bring joy or fear.

Jesus had the power to rebuke satans empty words, promising lies and tempting suggestions with the power of Gods Word. Three times He rebuked the enemy.
It is written….
It is written…
It is written

The Word of God can defeat and put the worst of the fallen angels back into place.
You have the same power today. Gods word is your mighty weapon against the rulers of the dark world.

Often sin has turned words into nothing more than evil weapons to kill and destroy. Promises that were declared are now broken faster than bread at the last supper. Humans use words to get things that will benefit their own fleshly desire. The word love is thrown around like candy at a parade. Words don’t have meaning, they are often just empty air, not followed by actions.
People have broken hearts and destroyed dreams because of sweet sounding words.

Keep the power of your words in mind at all times. Don’t make promises that you can’t keep. Don’t say a vow, you are not ready to take. Don’t send an email, that will do more harm than good. Be lead by the Holy Spirit and not your emotions. Only let wholesome talk come out of your mouth. Use your tongue to speak truth. If you give someone your word stick to it, no matter how hard the sacrifice might be. Follow through with what you said.

Be brothers and sisters of integrity, honor and truth.

Speak Life!!!
