I got lice for the first time ever in my life while on the Race. Instead of freaking out I laughed…a lot, and begged squadmates to check my head…a lot. (Shout out to Angela for faithfully helping me as I waged war against these obnoxious insects! You’re awesome!)
Anyways, one night I couldn’t sleep, so I started writing haikus about my lice experience. So here are my rather terrible poems shared for your amusement. And yes, there are 11 of them because it’s the World Race and 11 is an important number and therefore fun to use in blogs or something.

Itchy scratchy itch
Bugs are crawling in my hair
And biting my scalp

People avoid me
No hugs for the infested
Somebody love me

It only takes one
Then your head is full of eggs
And itching begins

Lots of shampooing
Even more time spent combing
The war wages on

Comb out lice and knits
The shampoo isn’t working
Time to shave my head?

Hearing ‘I found one!
…There are also some new eggs.’
No no no no no

Six haikus later
‘I think I have a problem.’
‘Yeah, bugs on your scalp.’

I am not leprous
Lice won’t jump off of my head
And attack your scalp

Comb comb comb comb comb
Shampoo shampoo shampoo rinse
Comb comb comb some more

Gotta catch ’em all
Carefully combing my hair
Clean head por favor

The insects are gone
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
The insects are gone!

That concludes my lice poetry. I hope that put a smile on your face.
