On the Race there are many random adventures that happen along the way that don’t quite make it into blogs, but are still worth remembering and sharing. I’ve been doing my best to compile a list as things happen…so here are some of the small adventures (and bigger ones still worth mentioning) from Europe!
Albania
Remember that one time…
I got sprayed by windshield wiper fluid while crossing the street
Fatos had to bandage my scrapes from playing football [soccer] with the kids at camp
I heard a familiar song in Spanish (Vamos a la Playa) at a bus stop
I became known as ‘goalkeeper Jen’
Serbia/Bulgaria
Remember that one time…
I met a Whovian in Serbia
I played telephone in Serbian (it’s terrifying when you have no idea what you might be saying)
I got bit by a mountain in Bulgaria
I learned how to tie a few knots at a Royal Rangers camp
We questioned why pigeons bob their heads when they walk
We didn’t get off the train at the right stop and almost ended up in Macedonia instead of Bulgaria
I crossed the Serbia/Bulgaria boarder on foot in the rain
Romania
Remember that one time…
A group of us thought we found a hot air ballooning place, but it turned out to be a kids camp
We almost got arrested for handing out Bibles in a village
One of my squadmates said ‘blah blah blah’ in prayer
The neighbor to the church gave myself and 2 other girls flowers as we were walking to our morning prayer and worship meeting
The neighbor gave me grapes while I was sweeping outside the church
I scored 4 times playing football [soccer] twice with my left foot even
I was in a major car accident where the van I was in rolled twice, my head went out the window, and I walked away with just a concussion
God actively healed everyone who was in the car accident (not immediate, but His hand is absolutely CLEARLY active in healing each person)
Austria
Remember that one time…
I celebrated my birthday at a cemetery
I got to see where Beethoven, Strauss, Brahms, etc are buried
I found Dr. Pepper
We walked into St. Peter’s cathedral just in time for a free concert [on my birthday]
I realized I cannot pick up German very well
We met a lovely couple at a restaurant, and they blessed us by paying for our food [again, on my birthday]
I GOT MY INDIA VISA IN REAL LIFE [and a day earlier than expected]
I watched the Sound of Music while in Austria
I listened to Dear Vienna by Owl City while in Vienna
