Door to Door
I am sitting on a rock in front of a hut there are baby
chickens running all around me and I am with pastor George from Bugiri,
Godfred, Jessica, Rebecca who are all locals of Butende. We are visiting with two local women. One is older and the other is her grandchild
who happens to be a mother to a few of the naked babies running around. The young mother’s breast is sticking out of
her shirt and granny’s fancy top is apparently not on correctly so she takes it
off to readjust. I have a gang of local
children just following me around not matter where I go, and I get the honor of
preaching the gospel to them! They
listen to what pastor George translates for me, and granny decides she would
like to follow Jesus! With little
fanfare George led the granny through the sinner’s prayer and they wrote down
their names and we left. Hopefully they
will come to church on Sunday so they can baptized. Just another day here in Uganda going door to
door, I wonder like all of you just how real can these people’s commitment
after such a short visit. Are they just
being nice? Well, I think some are
probably just being nice, but at least one visit was very interesting. We stopped by and visited a Muslim woman, who
thought that Jesus and Mohammad were the same. I explained to her that they were not and that Jesus loved her. I also mentioned that I personally know a
Muslim who saw Jesus in a dream, and that she should open her heart and ask for
Jesus to reveal himself to her. Well
long story, short she had already seen Jesus in a dream and our visit was just
confirmation to her of Jesus’ realness. I think we should really learn from how God works and just stop beating
around the bush and just speak the name of Jesus more often. I am not saying door is the right thing in
the US, but talking about Jesus a little more may not be a bad thing!
