Now that I have safely arrived in Chepen, Peru, I want to give some details on our travel here.

We left Lago Agrio, Ecuador on Sunday afternoon and took a bus around 6 hours to Quito where we stayed the night with a couple of other teams. Not only was it awesome to see some of our other squad mates, but it was also a nice surprise to have Domino’s Pizza waiting for us. Who knew Domino’s could taste and look so good!? Lol.

The next day we were able to chill at the hostel we stayed in and waited for other teams to arrive so that we could all take a bus to the Peruvian border. We left that night around 7:30 and traveled 12 hours overnight to the border. We then ditched that bus and walked with our packs through this small town to the border. Once we walked across we border another bus that took us to the Peruvian customs station.

After we all had gone through customs we spent the day in the town of Tumbes, Peru while we waited for our next bus to leave at 8:00 that night. We all enjoyed spending time with our other squad mates and swapping stories.  At 8:00pm we boarded the second bus and once again traveled overnight for another 12 hours until my team was dropped off in the town of Chepen which is our current location. We met our contact, Pastor Juan, at the bus stop. He and another man from the church named Henry helped gather our bags and brought us to the church we are staying in for the first three weeks of this month (The last week my team will be staying in Trujillo). We are staying on the second floor of the church and we have to use our tents because it is open-aired. The people here are very nice and the weather is MUCH cooler than it was in Lago! Our ministry here will include painting, home visits and reaching out to the youth of the city.

God Bless and we miss all of you in Lago!  Thanks for the prayers!

30 hours on a bus + 2 nights sleeping on a bus + 3 days without showering + 2 hours of customs waiting = Your typical travel day on the World Race. And from what I have heard, this was a “nice” travel experience compared to some of our upcoming travel days 🙁
