After many hours of travel, my team and I are finally in the city of Vlora, Albania which is a nice city on the west coast of the country. We are working with Campus Crusade at the University of Vlora and will be doing such things as evangelism and participating in meetings. My team is also staying and serving with Team “Cherished Flame” (an all-girls team) which is cool. It is the second week of classes for the students and we are focused on trying to get the students involved. This month should challenge me and I am really looking forward to it.

So far, the most interesting part of the month is that I am staying in the girl’s dorm of the campus. The dorm consists of around 250 girls. Add that to the fact that we are serving with an all girls’ team, and that my team only has one other guy and you have a wonderfully lopsided ratio. Indeed it is a sea of estrogen.

Another awesome part of staying in the dorms is that we have what they call “Turkish toilets”. Translate that to be “squatty potties” and you have an awesome bathroom experience. In addition, we are only allowed to shower between the times of 2pm-3pm, otherwise known as “shower hour”. Oh yeah, we also have a giant Santa Claus in our room which can be quite disturbing when you wake-up in the middle of the night.

On a more serious note, on our second night here I was able to have a conversation with some Jehovah’s Witnesses kids (there was about five of them ages 8-15). It was really informal and we did all of our talking through Google translator since they spoke Albanian (obviously). We never went too in depth, but I was able to tell them why we were there and my views on God. It was a really enjoyable time.
That’s all folks! God Bless!
