Our team made it safely to Kigali, Rwanda. Praise Jesus. A few of our squad mates, two from my team, got held at the border and were not allowed to pass through because they are Canadian. After a few days they obtained visas and have rejoined us. Getting them here safely was a testimony in itself.
I have to say Africa is beautiful. Not only the landscape but the heart of this nation is beautiful. The people of this land are full of a joy and laughter unexplainable to the outsider. Having been here just shy of 2 weeks I have experienced more love that I thought possible. Whether it is the 80 year old man in church greeting you with a wrinkled smile, the families opening their homes to us with a warm hearts, or the herds of children running towards us with their arms open yelling “bazoonga” from 30 yards away…….love is shared from the youngest to the oldest. While walking through a village or a valley whispers and shouts of Bazoonga (meaning-white people) ring out!
Our ministry this month consists of door to door evangelism and bringing testimonies and words of praise to the congregation of New Covenant Church. My team lives with the pastor, his wife, and 4 children ranging in age from 1 to 9. This 4 bedroom house is bursting at the seams with fellowship. Praise Jesus we have running water and beds! I am constantly surprised at how welcoming the natives are to us. It is the cultural norm to invite all guests in. I have had to opportunity to tell people about Jesus and what he has done in my life. It is no coincident the house and people we visit. I know God pulled me from my life back home to be at that specific house talking to that specific woman or man. It is all his divine appointments. I am blessed and humbled to walk with Jean Paul, Cedrick, and Francine in accepting Jesus Christ into their lives for the first time. Those works are not through my hands but Christ working through me. The Kingdom of Heaven is rejoicing because more of His children are coming home.
Pastor Peter gave us all Africa names. The whole congregation and all the locals here now call us by them. My new name is O’wella meaning ‘the holy one.’
Yesu ara gukuda…….. Jesus loves you !
I will be posting lots of pics in the next few day…..the internet is scarce J
