When I think of superheroes, the typical image of a hero comes to mind. Superman is flying through the skies, Spiderman is climbing buildings and swinging from a web, and even Wonder Woman is warding off over sized men from her invisible jet. They’re living a life of adventure and heroism. They have a common purpose in life in warding off evil and coming to the rescue of victims. They may be victims of evil deeds or just victims of every day life circumstances and catastrophes. Either way, they are equipped with some special power that helps them to defend and control the evil that they are up against.

With Spiderman III out and the new Fantastic Four coming soon to a theatre near you, I had a revelation. I have been part of a superhero entourage for almost two years. Fighting alongside three other girls, I come into contact with evil and life challenges on a daily basis. We’ve had to fight against lies and bondage that keep us from living a life that is full of truth and power. Therefore, we have had to use supernatural powers that my fellow superheroes display. This is the power that only God can supply, a power which has been displayed through avenues of prayer and of hearing God’s truth through His voice and scripture.

After already living a life centered in ministry, almost two years ago, I, Susan, Melissa (my sis) and Zhela (sh-el-a) were challenged to start a prayer accountability group. We were tired of living lives bound up in our excuses which kept us from living a full victorious life that was honoring to God. I believe that we have made up are own “Fantastic Four.” Monday through Thursday we receive morning calls. Each of us has an assigned day to we call the other three and pray with them. We have all picked an area that we need to be “rescued” from in our lives. My days are Thursdays. It has been an amazing two years.

I can see why Spiderman and Superman respond to every call of helplessness. Even though they get beaten up, they somehow find the full source of the power and use that to defeat the enemy. Afterwards they are filled with victory and the overwhelming sense of “good” that they were able to bring to mankind. They are proud that they can see change and bring people out of whatever is bringing control and bondage to them.

These women have become heroes to me. They have fought right beside me in battles that I have had to conquer. They have lifted me in prayer, shared truth in love, and have challenged me in ways that would only produce victory. I know that they celebrate along with me and love seeing change in my life because I have felt this same emotion for them. What God has transformed in us, is amazing and all according to His timing. What He has changed and healed in the last year has only been a precursor to things that He is doing now. The power that we have been given is humbling and amazing. As “The Fantastic Four” we know that it is not by “our” strength that these changes have occurred. And we are well aware that if we don’t tap into His power and truth then there isn’t going to be any rescuing going on.

I hope my life always consists of “heroes” lifting me in prayer and fighting against the enemies doings. And in turn I may be a hero too. It has been a privilege to fight alongside these women in battling and rescuing our world. Hey! We could be the next best selling motion picture of the year. Well, a girl can dream, can’t she?!
