shift in ministry schedule!
what it looks like for our last π month in cambodia! (it’s going too fast):
wake up at 5am ish: (gracie & i do this, our other teammates wake up at about 6-7am & the rest of our team wakes up 30 seconds before breakfast is served haha it’s so funny seeing them in zombie form every morning) π
5-6am: spend time with the Lord, drink some matcha, get out of zombie form
6-7am ish: do whatever that days’ training run is! (rachel, my team leader, & i, as well as many people from our other teams on the squad, are running in the 22nd annual Angkor Wat half-marathon! I’M SO EXCITED. (Angkor Wat is one of the largest temple monuments in the world & is located here in Siem Reap. it used to be one of the 7 wonders of the world but is now just considered an ancient wonder) dope, right?!!
8am: eat breakfast! (some form of egg (scrambled or fried) w/ bananas & watermelon)
9-11am: this slot of time is used to serve our team, spend time with the Lord, clean up miscellaneous guesthouse things, go to the market, evangelize, hangout with our neighbors, love on the staff, nap; it’s our choice how we spend this time!
11-noon: devotional time. time spent with the Lord!!! -love this time. i am currently reading through the Bible chronologically! there is a really cool app called ReadScriptureApp i use (recommend 10/10) & it takes you through the Bible & has videos to explain what’s happening-because the Bible is hard to understand sometimes π
noon-1pm: lunch!!!!! (steamed rice + stir fry or fried rice + veggies along with tomatoes & cucumbers & the famous fried asian egg)
1pm-dinner time: our time as well. this month we get to make our own ministry schedules. i am so grateful we get to do so because it allows us to practice making ministry our lives, which it ought to be. instead of being told to go out and evangelize, we just simply go out and put ourselves in position to share the gospel with whoever is around. because as bob goff says “to find where Jesus is needed, go where people are” i definitely just butchered that. but yeah. i like to be where Jesus is needed! i want everyone to know Him!!! because He is COOOOOL
i love evangelizing. i love having real reason to talk to people. i like to talk. i am so thankful to be taught how to correctly evangelize and i am even more thankful for being pushed out of my comfort zone into actually talking to people!
our “aimed” people we evangelize to is tourists. we have met some super cool people. people from sweden, switzerland, belgium, russia, thailand, canada, australia, new zealand, austria, myanmar; people from amazing places! what we do is spot a person (we’re like semi creepers) so we target a person, place ourselves in their vicinity, find something around to strike up conversation, then we get to know them and bridge the conversation (usually after we ask what the religion is like where they’re from) to the Gospel and Jesus and what He did for us and why we need Him and tell about how free we are and how loved we are and how amazing our sweet Savior is. that’s usually how it goes!
the most difficult part about evangelizing, i think, is bridging the conversation from small talk to spiritual talk. i find it much easier if i just cut straight to the chase. as in, “hey when you die, what do you think is on the other side?” like STRAIGHT to the chase. this question usually really gets it rollin though. the replies are typically “i don’t believe in afterlife” or “reincarnation” or “hmm good question, i really don’t know.” then i get to spill the beans and tell them about the most amazing dude in the history of amazing dudes. sadly, i have only had ONE person reply with “Heaven and Hell, i’m a christian.”
Siem Reap has really opened my eyes to how lost our world is. i’ve been studying a book written by mark cahill called “The One Thing You Can’t do in Heaven.” (read it to find out what the one thing is. no spoilers here) it’s an amazing book. it equips you to go out and talk to people about Christ. it has opened my eyes to the need for evangelizing. & truly has convicted me in the fact that i’ve got a lot of tickets in my pocket to give to people that can get them into Heaven, why do i keep holding on to them? how truly selfish and sinful it is of me to not share my faith with everyone i come into contact with. how rude of me to hoard God. how rude of me to not invite my brothers and sisters to come spend eternity with THE creator of the universe. the Lord has used mark cahill’s book to show me the significance of the gospel. & to show me how much our world needs Him. & how it is my duty as a follower of the Most High to take the gospel to the ends of the earth as well as to my friends and family.
& as for dinner: we usually eat street food or go eat at our girl Tevy’s restaurant! we LOVE Tevy!!!!!
gracie & i are working on a cambodian food vlog to show you all the different things we eat! i usually eat fruit or leftovers or oats & almond milk for dinner because too much rice causes too much problems π
that’s all! xoxo
