You know you are traveling on the World Race when….

-No travel day goes as planned. If they say 3-4 hours, expect it to be 9-12 hours.

-You are packing 20+ people in a van 15 seats. There is always room for more.

-A dinner break consists of gas station food or street food. Hmmm… cashews, pineapple, or street meat. Decisions. Decisions.

-Bathroom breaks happen anywhere and at anytime. Be prepared to go on the side of the road.

-Being comfortable is nearly impossible. When you can sit no longer, try to stand or reposition yourself if possible. If not, embrace the discomfort and take advantage of any chance to get out.

-Flat tires, buses breakdown, vans get stuck in mud and sand, sliding doors refuse to stay shut, packs stacked behind you fall on your head (repeatedly), etc..

-Border crossings take five hours. You can't rush bureaucracy, ever.

-You find yourself sharing an Ipod and a headphone splitter with four other people. A little music goes a long way on a 20 hour travel day!

-Sleep is tough to find except for those annoying/awesome people who can sleep anywhere! Lucky for you those people often snore loudly and use your shoulder as a pillow 😉

-You have to turn around for the fifth time because the driver is lost or we missed a turn. Patience is a virtue we are taught each day we travel.

Although this is only the end of my second month on the World Race, I have a feeling these statements are just the beginning of a lot of funny, crazy, exhausting travel days all over the World. Buckle up World Race style and press into that!
