MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
August 29, 2012, day 53 of the race, we celebrated Christmas in August. Odd
you say? What were you doing on August 29, 2012? Not celebrating Christmas
in Nepal. 😛 As our team two teams grew closer over the month, we thought
it would be fun to do something silly and exciting together. Thus,
Christmas in August was born. Here is the rules…yes rules for Christmas.
First we had to decorate the house and play Christmas music all day. Second
we had to have Christmas cookies, several different kinds, and hot
chocolate. Third, most importantly we had to have apple cider except I
decided along with Allison Hill that we should do wassail instead of cider.
We would be watching ELF that night collectively. Our contact and his
family were all invited to join us. And lastly, there would be a gift
exchange the following morning after breakfast. Your gift could be anything
you wanted to give, as long as it came from your pack. No buying things for
anyone as your gift to them. There we're some quite interesting gifts
given!! The day surprisingly went almost exactly as planned. Since we had
no way to bake cookies, we made no bake cookies, and bought a few other
kinds. We made popcorn on the stove and had a lot of hot chocolate. I made
a gallon of wassail which is where the Christmas smell in the house came
from. And then we all had a part in decorating the house and setting up for
our guest and the movie.
The title of this blog came into existence while we were sitting in the
kitchen just hanging out and some one had tasted wassail for the first
time, which has apple juice and an orange in it for those of you who do not
know, and they said, who knew you could mix apples and oranges. Then there
was a comment from another room and some one said Christmas in August was
kind of like apples and oranges. Next thing you know I am writing a blog
about how Christmas in August is similar to wassail. But stranger things
have happened on the race!
As He leads me,
Jason
