We found this young family here (Ben and Sheena George) in Matagalpa Nicaragua (their kids are like 5, 3, and 1) who are doing something I find very admirable! They wanted to open a children’s home here in Nicaragua and were looking for a way to support it and make it self-funded. So in the last year or so leading up to coming to Nicaragua they started making homemade Ice cream for all their friends and family in CA and starting working on perfecting their recipes and technic till they had something that everyone thought was seriously the best ice cream they ever had. I’d like to weigh in on that sentiment. I stopped by the ice cream shop yesterday (which is set to open this Saturday)  and had a sample fresh out of the mixer and it was the best ice cream I think I have ever had, and it’s all homemade right there on the spot. Let’s just say that on Saturday, I will be helping to make their first day in business a very profitable day. I plan on eating ice cream till I can’t! And that could be a lot over the course of the day ??

So this ice cream shop right off the central park will help support their vision of seeing anywhere from 8-10 kids placed in one home. And may I stress a home! They want to impact the kids in a greater way by giving them a home to live in, not an orphanage. I love, absolutely love when I see business put to such a good use as that. Someday, with my business skills I want to do the same thing. I like business, quite a bit actually as I have come to realize in the last year or so of being absent from being involved in business, but I totally love the thought of business supporting a mission in as many aspects as possible by being intentional on all levels and spheres of influence it has; employees include/are people being trained in life skills and mentored spiritually, funds support the cause of a community type ministry very closely linked to the business (i.e. coffee shop in college house for international students), customers lives changed by employees involvement in the local community…the possibilities are endless. And I love to dream about what might be out there that I can someday get involved in with business and missions and what I can continue to do with the business God has entrusted me with already.

So since the paragraphs were written above, we have actually got to help out with there first two days in business! Saturday night, Sara, Nick and I stayed up all night long working on making ice cream for the following day. We started around 9:30 and finished up at 6:30 the following morning! Later the next day after a few hours of sleep we went back and helped them run the place till they closed that evening. Let’s just say the first two days in business was a huge success and we had to close the doors early because we totally were out of everything! Those two days were the best days on the race for me. Ice cream. People. Coffee. Friends. Did I mention making ice cream? So fun! Thanks Ben and Sheena George foe the amazing time and allowing us to help out!
