This
is papa. He is 95 years old and he is the sweetest old man alive. I can usually
find him soaking in the warm sun in front of the house. He normally wears his
cute little snow cap that has now given him a major tan line. He’s a bit hard
of hearing so my conversation with him consists of me yelling for the most
part. He is an old man that is so full of love and wisdom. He lives at Asha Nepal (Hope for
the Sexually Exploited Women & Their Children) and he continues to show his
love to the children and women at this home. He knows what it is like to lose a
child through the sex trade. He experienced the pain and suffering when his
daughter went missing.

His
daughter was sold by her adopted brother into the sex trade. She was taken from
Nepal into the red light
district of Mumbai, India.
She was only 14 years old and scared to death. Tortured and brainwashed by the
madam, she was broken and forced into a life as a sex slave for the next 5
years.

Her
life made a turn for the better when a worker from Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC)
began to come into the brothels and pray for her and other girls. He was
allowed to come into the brothels because BTC offers medical treatments for the
girls, but along with medical treatments they show that they truly see the girls
as a person, NOT just a commodity. The workers encourage the girls through
prayer and by simply being their friend. The madam was so moved by the
sincerity of this man that she began to attend the BTC weekly meetings where
she heard about the love of Jesus Christ. She began to feel for these girls.
Emotions that were thought to be erased came up to the surface. A heart of
stoned turned into a beating fleshy heart. The madam eventually repented to the
girls and set them all free. She closed down her brothel and never bought
another girl again. Papa’s daughter was finally free and able to return to her
family after five painful years.

She
now works for BTC and helps girls like her come out of the sex trade. She is
able to forgive the brother that sold her because she is a follower of Christ.
She understands Jesus’ love and forgiveness which has helped her walk in that
forgiveness toward the brother that nearly destroyed her life.

As
I say my good byes to Papa he says “You’re my baby, my daughter. I love you!
and he really meant it. I respond with “mo maya gerchuâ€  (I love you) and
I meant it. It’s crazy to think that I’ve only known papa for a few days, yet I
can genuinely say that I love him.
