I have been mulling over this concept for a while but haven’t quite put it into words until recently. Do what absolutely terrifies you, it means exactly how it sounds.
Do what absolutely terrifies you sounds like a strange concept but stick with me and I promise it will change your life for the better. A few months ago I listened to a podcast featuring Alex Honnold a world-class rock climber that free solo climbed (no ropes) El Capitan in Yosemite in under 4 hours un absolute insane feat. In his interview, they asked why he would do something so dangerous and he said in a very relaxed and calm manner only when we push past fear do we really begin to live. Living life just on the other side of the fearful moment makes you feel really alive. I took that concept and thought what am I most scared of and why? Speaking on stage and heights were two big fears of mine so I started there by speaking on stage at church doing announcements and I picked up rock climbing. First time I spoke on stage in front of 200+ people I want to bolt, I wanted to throw up but then I let go and trusted God and after I realized it wasn’t so scary and God got me through it. First time I went climbing I got halfway up the wall I panicked and froze and wanted to come back down. After a few more time going I’m now able to freely hang 50ft in the air causally talking about the handhold I just slipped and fell off with my friends below me with no fear. I then took this entire concept and thought of this Biblically, why do we let fear grasp onto us so much and it hit me. Our biggest accomplishments in life are just on the other side of fear.
I believe our greatest gifts and experiences are just one the other side of what absolutely terrifies us. Praying over people, healing, evangelism, all these things can seem so daunting but God will always guide us along the way and never forsake us. Living a life without fear is living a life truly alive. Take it from me an introvert that use to have social anxiety and panic attacks constantly, but through God all those fears have melted away. With Him there is nothing to be afraid of, embark on your life’s journey knowing it won’t always be easy but the hard and fearful moments you push pass will be what makes you grow. Relying on God every step of the way to guide you. Living outside of fear won’t always feel comfortable or easy but that’s where you must trust in God fully. It will be where you fully become the person God has created you to be. Find what you’re most scared of and conquer it, I believe that is when you will start to really feel most alive and free. If its Gods plan for you nothing can stop your path. Be the David in a world full of Goliaths.
“God does not put a spirit of fear, but of power and love, and of sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
