As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs27:17 NIV)

A knife that is the dull can still be used as a knife. It can be used in many tasks but it will not be as effective as it is intended or designed to be. The same is true for us as Christians. We can still do Gods work and good things but may not be as effective as He intended or called us to be. Our actions can and do lead people away from Christ and the church at times when we don’t fully live out His will as He plans us too.

As the body of Christ we should seek out relationships that challenge, guide and encourage us to be what God has called us to be. Here are a few questions that I had to ask myself during the process of answering His call and beginning to live My life walking with Christ.

-How did My friends allow me to stay dull?

The encouraged living in lust and found it to be acceptable. They made excuses for my short comings instead of leading me to growth, they glorified sin and continually had excuses to make sin allowable. Not that my life was full of bad people but I didn’t have people that strengthened me to be a better Christian or to be what God was calling me to be, what God calls all of us to be.

A friend of iron will not let you live in your own self-imposed mediocrity, they will always push you to be more than You are and towards oneness with Christ.

-How can we sharpen each other?

Lead with Love and biblical principles to guide friends in life. Demonstrate the joy of living a righteous life. Put glorifying God first and encourage others to do the same. One of my new brothers and I were talking about this subject and he noted that Iron does sharpen Iron, but there will be sparks. That is so true. Friends pushing you to do the right thing and flee from the enemy will at times upset you. No one likes being told they are wrong and the truth can hurt. We should all take a step back and evaluate the relationships in our lives to see if we are being sharpened. Bounce some biblical principles off of the actions and decisions in your life. Spend a moment self evaluating to see how dull or sharp you are.

So God finally put some iron in My life. I met some of the finest people I have even known during training camp the last 10 days. They are from all different walks of life and countries but share the same defining trait, Glorifying God and answering His call is first. They called me to be greater than I am and have been. They challenge me to overcome and raise to the calling in my life. They provide scripture and prayer to reinforce what they say and haven’t backed down from what is right. That is Iron! They are iron because Christ lives in them. Praise God for my new family!
