We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip.

Here is my story…

It was a series of events which when combined became God’s call for me to go on this mission trip.  Here they are.  Once, a few years ago I was at a Concert with a friend of mine.  During the concert I started to ponder on James 1:27.  “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”  I told my friend that I had never cared or had any compassion on orphans and never had a thought of actually obeying that scripture.  I felt grieved.  I needed to go to the bathroom so I left the crowd of people and headed that direction.  Halfway there I walked past a World Vision booth which had pictures of many orphan children and information about them.  I reached down to pick one up.  It was a young boy.  I read the information about him.  country, hometown, number of siblings, and then birthday.  Sept.12.  I began to weep as I read that we shared the same birthday!  I adopted the boy financially and since then my heart has been opening to the idea of missions.
During this  time I had a friend (Amy) who came from a church that was big into missions and she would frequently share about her experiences.  Later we got married and she began to talk about the importance of missions.  I asked her if she would look for a mission trip that we could go on.  She searched and came upon the world race.  We agreed this was God’s will.
