I’ve been trying to write a blog for the past week, and specifically now, the past hour or so. I think I’m overthinking it. So, on that note, we’re in Quito, Ecuador…
Quito is probably the prettiest place I’ve ever been, it’s surrounded by massive mountain ranges, some of which are volcanoes, and towering peaks covered by snow. Our ministry is on the side of one of the mountains, and has such an incredible view. The ministry is an after school program for kids, run by French volunteers, and funded by the French government. It’s not religious in anyway, which makes it hard to do the kind of missions people typically think of; we’re not leading VBS or acting out Bible stories.
Our main reach isn’t even the kids, it’s the French workers. Our “boss” kind of person with them is Emma. She’s pretty cool. We asked her to pray with us one day during lunch, and she had no idea what that meant or would be like. After we finished, she said that wasn’t hard. That whole exchange was such a reality check. Some people don’t even know what prayer is.
So God’s really been humbling our idea of ministry. Which I appreciate. It’s teaching us to not set our own expectations, but to expect what God’s expecting, instead.
Thank you everyone who’s donated to me, and given me the chance to see God work in places I never imagined existed. I’m so close to being fully funded! just about a thousand more! If you feel led to give, please donate through my blog. Thanks.
