Welcome to the Jan 2011 World Race Squad!

I think that I speak for everyone when I say that we’re all really excited to be a part of such an amazing experience and the excitement grows more and more as we get closer to training camp and launch. It’s also exciting to see new people continually added to our team! We want to welcome you warmly, help you navigate the blog and get involved in our community here and on face book with as much ease as possible.

I’m a late comer to the group as well so I understand what it feels like to be out of the loop. I’ve taken the liberty of creating a section called ‘Introduction’ to help break things down and get everyone informed and involved in what’s going on.

First thing you can do is go to the post titled “Hi my name is…â€ and introduce yourself. I know it took some time for my name and blog to get set up but you should be able to comment. You’re introduction will let us know that you exist and enable us to keep an eye out for you and help you get connected. I’ve asked that the people who have already been accepted post their own brief introduction to break the ice and to make the long list of names down the side a little bit less scary. I’m hoping that knowing something about the people on our squad will make training camp a little less overwhelming later on. In my experience people are always a lot more comfortable when they know someone even a little bit and tackling that list of blogs is a big job.

Our squad has a face book group. I’m a newbie as well so I don’t know a lot about it. Perhaps someone who is more closely involved in that could post something about it including the link for the all of the new members of our squad in the introduction section where it’s easy to find. If you have face book then definitely check that out. I do know that we’ve been trying to move some of what is happening on face book into the blog where it’s accessible to those who have just joined our number.

Right now one of the things we’re attempting to bring to the blog is the Bible reading. For the month of August we’ve decided to read the book of Acts. There is a section at the side titled Acts and if you click on it then it will take you to all of the posts involved in that process. Basically we’re reading a chapter a day and commenting if anything jumps out at us as interesting or insightful. So far the thoughts, comments and insights have been amazing. I highly recommend reading Robin’s post about Acts chapter 2; I had never thought about it quite like that before and I loved what she had to say.

I’m going to try and create a prayer request and an encouragement section.

We’re a team and we would all love to have the opportunity to pray with and for you. If you want prayer for anything at all please feel free to post a request, just make sure to put it in the prayer request section so it will be easy for everyone to locate and respond to. On that note I believe that today, Tuesday August 3rd, we are dedicating to pray specifically for what God will do on our 2011 World Race.

If you stumble across something while praying or reading your Bible that is encouraging or if God totally comes through for you and you want to share please do. We’re all going through the same fundraising process and it’s hard sometimes, we could love the opportunity to celebrate with you and be encouraged by what God is doing in your life. You can post that in the encouragement section. J

I think that’s all for now. If anyone else has any ideas of ways that we can make this blog more welcoming and user friendly please share them. We’ve actually been given a pretty amazing communication tool and while a lot happens on face book this is where everyone ends up right after they’re accepted. I know that our group was memorizing scripture and reading novels. Perhaps we can incorporate that onto the team blog as well.

I’m look forward to meeting everyone and I hope this helps anyone out there who’s new to break into our little community. On behalf of everyone I want to welcome you to the Jan 2011 World Race squad. We’re all really excited and eager to get to know you. J

WELCOME!
