Being in India has been an interesting experience, to say the least! I truly didn’t fully believe culture shock was a real thing, till I got to India. I always thought “it can’t be that bad, I’m sure I can handle it.” Well, that thought was quickly refuted when I tried crossing a street. Cars, tuk tuks, scooters, and cows (yes cows) do not stop for pedestrians! I literally risk my life every time I need to move from one corner to another (not kidding). Trash cans are not a thing here so there is trash everywhere! A little part of me dies whenever I can’t find a trash can and have no choice but to litter. But in the mist of all the chaos and filth, Indian people are absolutely amazing! They are the most joyful, kind, and hospitable people I’ve ever met.

Our first few days in India were spent in Hyderabad. While in Hyderabad, we learned a lot about the Indian culture. We learned that we must cover our ankles and shoulders at all times. We also learned that forks and spoons are rarely used and that we can ONLY use our right hand when eating (still haven’t mastered that). On our last night in Hyderabad my team and I decided to go to a restaurant for dinner. To our surprise the restaurant owner was a Christian! He invited us to a prayer room above his restaurant where his family has prayer and worship. We gladly accepted his invitation and even though there was a language barrier, we were all able to pray and worship together. It was amazing to see how there’s no barriers in Christ. We are all one church, one body!

This month my team and I are partnering with Jireh Children Home! Jireh Children Home is ran by Morong and His wife Sendmi. Morong and Sendmi have devoted their lives to help children who come from extreme poverty. At their center they provide education, food and shelter while simultaneously teaching the children about Jesus! It’s amazing! They are also currently building a prayer hall, all while expecting three more children! Please pray that the Lord may provide the funds for them to finish their prayer hall and welcome more children!

It has been a privilege to work with these children. They are filled with so much joy and love learning about Jesus. They’re smart, funny, love to dance, and they are really good at beat boxing!!! We get to sing, learn about the bible, play, and dance together! I’m really enjoying being able to love on and spending time with each and every one of them!

And this is me pretending to cut a coconut open…..these past 2 weeks have been both amazing and challenging. Amazing because I have been able to love and share Jesus with these beautiful children. I already have so much love for them and it’s only been a week! It’s been challenging because a few of my teammates and I have gotten sick. I’ve also been struggling with feeling connected to God. Please pray for our health and that I’m able to draw closer to God regardless of my feelings and speak God’s truth into my life!
I have about 10 days left till I head to Nepal! Until next time 🙂
And Incase you were wondering, India has the best chai ever!!!!!
