This post is a bit on the graphic side so if bodily functions make you queasy then you might not want to read all of it.
Friday morning I woke up with drainage and a crusty nose. I went to a coffee shop to get breakfast and got a hot lemon honey drink. We went off to morning ministry. The sun was beating down on us. I had to lay down because I couldn’t breathe very well. I ended up passing out and slept for the rest of the Bible study.
Around 1 pm we had an all squad meeting. I laid down for that but because we had to fit all 55 of us in the basement it was very crowded. After the meeting I dozed off and on for a few hours.
At 6:30 I decided a nice hot shower would help loosen up my lungs and help me breathe easier. I also needed to wash clothes so I decided it was best to was clothes and then shower but I would do it all in the bathroom. I’m glad I chose that option. I thought I had to pass gas but turns out it was diarrhea. Luckily the toilet was right there. I finished doing what I needed to and then went back down the the dungeon (really the basement but those that live there with me this month we call it the dungeon)
I watched a movie. While watching the movie I had to rush to the squatty potty to throw up. Right after I threw up I turned around and had diarrhea. I went back to the movie. Once the movie was over I tried to get some sleep but my stomach wouldn’t allow me too.
At around 12:15am I headed off to the hospital with Amanda (one of my squad leaders) we ended up walking about a mile trying to find a taxi. After seeing 3 taxis pass us one car finally stopped. He wasn’t a taxi but he offered to take us for free so we took that. He was a blessing from the Lord.
Once we arrived at the hospital, I had my vitals checked. They started an IV almost immediately; because I was attached to the elbow I named my IV Steve. He was like an added person on the squad. I carried that pole with me everywhere I went. Even in the bed I had to make sure the line wasn’t getting caught when I turned over.
Once I was able to start eating a bit I ordered tomato soup thinking it would be creamy and like Campbells soup at home…instead it came out clear. It tasted ok but not what I was wanting. The mashed potatoes I ordered for dinner were a disappointment as well.
I got some much needed sleep and lots of fluids and was able to get my sinus infection in order a lot faster as well as get the diarrhea out of my system.
All of this to stay that sickness happens on the race. It’s not fun and sometimes you have to stay in the hospital even when you don’t want to because it means on missing out on certain things. Sometimes it’s necessary to rest your body so you’re healthy and don’t miss out on more things.
