Today at church we had the privilege of listening to and meeting a guy named Barnabas Mam. He is a survivor of the Pol Pot Genocide. He is 1 of 200 christians who survived. He survived along with his mother and one of his sisters. The rest died of starvation and other causes.

When he was 17 he joined the communist party of Cambodia. He was sent to spy on an evangelistic meeting by Dr. Stanley. He was then converted to Christ. He spent 4 years at killing fields. When asked how he survived, he said “by the grace of God”. The only copy of the bible he had at the time was Psalm 23. He memorized it and then started saying it over his life.

He fled to Thailand and was renamed Barnabas for safety. He was able to come back and build up the church here in Cambodia. He has planted a number of churches. He has written a book titled: Church behind the wire: A story of faith in the Killing Fields. Check it out on Amazon. I will be reading this soon!

A few of us talking to Barnabas after services.
