This post has been way overdue! I cannot tell you the amount of times God has given me a blog post idea and I’ve just brushed it to the side either due to laziness, lack of motivation or both. I vow to make sure to blog more often and push through my emotions! You can hold me accountable.

Today was officially my second day of classes of my very last semester of college! It’s been a long time coming. Taking me almost 7 years to finish (I’ll save that story for another post, you can hold me accountable for that too ). Since my first class today wasn’t scheduled until noon, I decided to head to lunch early around 11 AM. I knew I would be having lunch most likely alone since most students at that time are still in class or it’s just way too early for lunch. I sat myself down at a big round table near the main entrance of the dining hall. After getting my food, I started thinking about how this might be my routine for the rest of the semester; getting lunch at 11AM every time I have my class at noon and most likely eating alone (not that that’s a bad thing). I started talking to God about how I’d like for him to use this time to have me have lunch with anyone He wants me to (or what I called them at the time, “divine encounters”). Whether it be a friend that randomly walks in or even someone I’ve never spoken to before. About 10-15 minutes before I had to leave for a class, a familiar face sits at my table. We were already somewhat acquainted because we are in the same scholarship program but have never really spoken. (I’ll call her Stephanie for the purpose of privacy). Steph told me she had only a few minutes to eat since she also had a class at noon and so we got to talking about which classes we are taking. When I mentioned I was headed to a Religious Studies course, she expressed to me how she stays away from those classes because of how uncomfortable they make her feel. I asked her to explain and then she went on to tell me how because she is a Christian, it makes her uncomfortable to hear students criticize Christianity and most of all God. I knew exactly how she felt and told her I can relate because being a Christian on a secular campus isn’t easy. We were both surprised to not only find out we feel the same way, but that we both are Sisters in Christ. God began to use me to encourage her to not avoid those classes, but instead to be the light. We continued talking and ended up exchanging #’s.

To you this may not seem like a divine encounter at all because it wasn’t like the Heavens opened up and the angels started singing like you might see in movies, but what made this so divine was that it was orchestrated by God. It was a prayer answered express. You see, God also shows up in small and simple ways not always in big and obvious ones. If we just look at the simple day to day happenings of life, whether it be a smile someone gives you, a compliment, or even a conversation over a meal, God is there. Be open to the things God wants to show you. It’s like the saying, “it’s the little things in life that matter most.”
