I am in the process of fitting my life into a backpack. I will be traveling the world for a year and carrying everything I own.

This means losing most of my current possessions. But as I minimize my closet and sell my books and give away trinkets I’ve collected over the years, I wonder what am I really losing? A shirt I haven’t worn in three years. A book I never started reading. A Harry Potter pint glass I was planning to re-use for White Elephant.

It doesn’t seem like I’m losing much in losing my possessions. But what am I gaining? Experiences to share, meaningful relationships, a deeper love for God and His people.

I’ve counted up the cost, and it seems like I won’t be losing much. Instead I’m gaining in everything that matters.
I am in the process of having more with less.
