You will make it through this moment. If God can hold something as limitless as the earth, then He can hold this moment and the next and every moment after. Fight the lies. That you are a burden, that you are not good enough, that you are too hard to love.
The Awakening is a three-day conference for racers on the field to come together and pour into each other. Worship, prayer breakouts, evangelism activities, and storytelling projects are all run by racers.
During the conference, the guest speaker, Andrew Sherman of G42, boldly professed our purpose in life. To be loved.
The next day there was a women’s breakout where we were asked to write down truths from God about ourselves. It was a chance to put from pen to paper what it meant for me to be loved.
In the middle of my paper I wrote, “You are not a burden. You are human.”
Then I started writing the truth around it.
“You are beautiful, you have always been beautiful.”
“You are flawless with all of your flaws.”
“Your cracks are filled with gold.”
“You are my glory.”
“You belong.”
The page filled, the words crowded around each other as I boldly wrote the truth. And even while writing it, I had to remind myself it was true. And even while rereading it, I had to remind myself it was true. That it wasn’t fluff, that I wasn’t just doing this for the purpose of a writing exercise. That I’m overwhelmingly loved by God and that’s my identity, that’s my purpose, that’s the truth.
Be kind to yourself and try this journal exercise.
I saw the words “You’re not a burden. You’re a human.” on an empathy card once. The phrase stuck in my head. Check out the card company, they are very human and very cool: Emily McDowell Studios
We are currently in the outskirts of Chiang Mai, Thailand, serving at Nikki’s Place Agape Home. This space serves children impacted by the spread of HIV/AIDS. Many of the children who stay here are, or at risk, of being HIV positive.
My days this week include toddler care in the early mornings and evenings. I’ve also worked at the warehouse with the older children making washcloths and book bags for the new school year. It’s been a joy serving them and enjoying their company laying on giant trampolines with the occasional body slam.
