Calling Out a Revolution!
In order to shake up some hearts, crack up some smiles, and bring God to some dark and lonely souls, you need a revolution. This month God has blessed team Awakening with what has been the perfect start to our discipleship journey and a world revolution that begins on the streets. The Street Revolution Ministry located in Guatemala City was founded in 2004 by David and Julia Voncannon. With the mission to revolutionize the lives of the homeless community in Guatemala City. Through serving as an extension of the Lord Jesus’ love and to see them fully recover from their past hurts and realize their great potential and purpose that the Lord Jesus has set apart for their lives.
We are constantly hanging out with people from the streets, the ones who are not given a chance or even a look. Society has already cast them out and labeled them as drug addicts, taboo, dirty, smelly, dangerous, and nothing but a pebble in the shoe of a city. These are the type of people that few care to learn their name or a true friend is more of a myth. They are people who have tears running down their faces when they receive a hug, because to some it’s been years since the last time they had affectionate human contact. Some are even kids, ignored simply because they were born into extreme poverty.
So what exactly have we been doing? Simple, letting them know they are visible and they are loved. We talk to them, spend time with them, get to know them, and play with them. Whether a card game, soccer game, through a hug, or a prayer. These sound like things you normally do with a family member or a friend right? Well, that is what it is all about. God has invited us to open our eyes and hearts, to look at and treat these people as He sees them and not as society has influenced us to see them. In the eyes of our loving and merciful God, they are His children, just like we are. Therefore, they are also our brothers and sisters.
To conclude, I’m calling a world wide revolution. I’m calling all readers and everyone back home to start a revolution. A street revolution! I invite you all to open your hearts and take time to get to know someone from the streets. It is not all about feeding the homeless or giving them money. It is about letting them know they are being recognized and acknowledge by God and us, his children. It’s about letting them know that God is real, that He loves them and will lead them to His kingdom, if they accept Him in their life and remain faithful. Regardless of their sins, mistakes, or social status they are loved.
