It is funny because being on the race has made something atypical and made it normal for us!

Here are just a few things that Emily and I have come to find normal so far:

  1. Living with 5 other people as a married couple.
  2. Me having to take care of 5 girls instead of one.
  3. Eating expired food and not even questioning it.
  4. Doing things without power tools
  5. Learning to slow down and not feel bad about it.
  6. Finding ways to entertain ourselves in all circumstances without technology.  (most recently it consisted of bouncy balls and a table! J )
  7. Driving on the left hand side of the road with a manual car!
  8. Packing 9 people into a car that should hold 6 comfortably.
  9. Living somewhere for a month and then moving again!
  10. Traveling for at least 10 hours on travel days!
  11. Living in community with animals (this month alone cats, goats, dogs, birds, and small children).

I can tell you that when things are tough they have caused growth and when you are out of your comfort zone things begin to look different.  Having Emily here on this race is drastically different than having her home, but yet normal at the same time.  I know this does not make sense, but it is true.  Seeing Emily out of the circumstances that she was in at home has only grown my love for her and pushed her to grow in amazing ways!

The grand thing is that God has given me a similar passion for all of the members on my team.  I love them and find joy in pushing them and being their ‘Dad’ as they often refer to me.  The ways in which they have grown and continue to help me grow will not soon be forgotten.
