Jamos and I had no expectations as we entered our 8 days of training camp in TN! I was nervous because I have no previous camping ability and we had not practiced setting up our tent in our living room before having to set it up around 60 other people. Don’t worry though, we did great and had lots of help.

Basically, to recap the week, I did things I never thought I could/would do, I slept in amazingly strange and slightly awkward sleeping facilities (take that however you want). For the record, I had 3 showers in 8 days- and I was OK with it! I was thankful for the food that was given to us- and the thought of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with just 2 small fish and a little bread crossed my mind each meal time! God provided over and over and our stomachs were full and we were satisfied.

Most importantly, we met our squad- which is 58 other World Racers, going thru the same struggles of leaving behind loved ones, jobs, and housing. I have to admit, that is my favorite part! Rather than being the minority- you are the majority- all able to support each other through this process. It felt so good to just shout out “is anyone getting the Rabies shot?” or, “What kind of sleeping pad do you have?” Besides the fact that we are all trying to make a difference in the world …

*So, as a note to future World Racers, do not be afraid. Leave your expectations and desire for control (said from a control freak) at home, go to training camp with an open mind and an open heart. God is going to show up, and you will be able to get through training camp and leave in LOVE with the entire experience.

Jamos had his 27th birthday while we were at training camp and as his wife, I cannot begin to express how he was LOVED by our squad for his birthday. He got more cake/shakes/goodies/treats/happy birthdays/hugs/songs/attention than he has gotten in a LONG time. It only showed me that we will be traveling the world with a group of people who knows how to LOVE and LOVE WELL.
