My expectations for the World Race Missions Trip seem almost unexplainable. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines expectation as the, “act of looking forward to the coming.” For me one of the most anticipated parts of my mission trip is the unknown. This is the where God is going to move and work in ways that I cannot even predict.
I expect to be stretched personally, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
I expect to bring God in various forms to people who need it.
I expect to meet some amazing people.
I expect to be uncomfortable.
I expect to live in community with other believers.
I expect to be changed.
I expect to see the world through a different and unique lens.
I expect for my relationship with God to grow.
I expect to go to 11 countries in 11 months.
I expect to be astonished
I expect to be the hands and feet for those that cannot be where I soon will be.
This experience will undoubtedly change my life in ways that I cannot even fathom. But for some reason the lyrics of a Jeremy Camp seem to resonate with my expectations. I want these lyrics to be the cry of my heart during this trip. The song is Empty Me…
Holy fire burn away
My desire for anything
That is not of you and is of me
I want more of you
And less of me
Empty me, empty me, fill me
With you, with you
No matter whether it be a great day, an okay day, or just a hard day, may I continue to strive to become more of you Jesus, and less of me. Empty me and fill me with discernment, knowledge and experience from this trip to cement my trust and reliance in you. May I relinquish my control, my fears, and my expectations to you. Fill me!
