Christians are called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven” (Matthew 5:13-16, NIV).
Being the light of the world seems fairly self-explanatory.
But what does it mean to be the salt of the earth?
In order to understand what it means for us to be the salt of the earth, we have to understand many of the characteristics of salt.
-
Salt is valuable.
-
Salt is flavorful.
-
Salt makes people thirsty.
-
Salt helps in biological function.
-
Salt heals.
-
Salt can kill.
-
Salt preserves.
-
Salt must penetrate to do its job.
I’d blog all about these characteristics of salt in relation to our lives as Christians, but, instead, I’m going to include a link to a message about being the salt of the earth. (You might recognize the speaker’s voice.)

And after listening to the message, go be the salt of the earth!

I love being the salt of the earth right where I am in Missouri, but I’m also looking forward to being the salt of the earth all over the earth on the World Race.
As always, thank you for being a part of this journey.

Jami
P.S. If you are interested in financially partnering with me for all that God is doing in and through me, please click the Donate! button. I am nearly 50% funded! Woo! While I am so humbled by the giving that has already taken place, I still have quite a ways to go, so if you feel led to give, please do so, and know that I will be praying so many blessings over your life in return.
