Let me tell you a CRAZY God story.

Those of you who follow me on social media know that I spent my 24th birthday in the hospital recovering from a moped accident. It wasn’t how I expected to celebrate my birthday, but what is really really really cool about it is that God made it extremely special.

Just MOMENTS after the crash, as I was laying on the ground and making sure nothing important was broken or fractured, I heard a deep, southern, American accent hover over me and my friends as we examined the situation. I looked up and found a kind man making sure we are alright and asking if he could be of any help.

Me and my friend Meredith were in shock and God sent an angel. He and his four kids turned the corner what would have to be second after the crash happened. Turns out they are missionaries here in Malaysia! And of COURSE with the Holy Spirit working inside of him, his kindness lead him to stop, noticing that we were foreigners in the country and thought it might be helpful to have someone who was from home and knew the area to help them out.

He was right.

His name was Tony and he offered to drive us to the hospital because I felt like I had cracked a rib. These wonderful folks stopped their entire plans for the afternoon to help two young women who were in an accident. He drove us to the hospital and once we were checked in, took his kids to get dinner, but they immediately came back to wait with the rest of my team to hear the results. They found out it was my birthday and went to a nearby bakery to buy me cake AND candles. They spent hours in the hospital with us and I was completely baffled at their compassion, kindness, and joy they gave me on my birthday.

Fast forward and they invite us to their church on Sunday. We go.

Then they invite us to have lunch with them afterwards. We go.

Then they invite us back to their home to hang out and relax. We go.

Then we meet his LOVELY wife and she shares that she would love to disciple us and walk us through this curriculum called “Unveiling Your Calling,” so we do it.

This family of 6 soon becomes our own family and best friends. We spend most afternoons hanging out with them, babysitting their kids, listening to their story, learning from all of their wisdom and insight, and ministering to them as BEST we can by doing little things like helping them organize.

Tony’s wife, Tracy, LOVES ministering and pouring into young women like us and helping them find their God given talents, strengths, and calling. We went through a 3 day mini conference with her, really digging into how God made us, what we are passionate and compelled to do, and how we can use that in the kingdom.

This program was IMMENSELY helpful as a young missionary wondering what the next step is for me. I was reminded of my creativity, my desire to work in film, my love for mentoring and coaching younger people, especially younger girls. And then God showed me two young girls right in front of me, Tony and Tracy’s daughters. I was drawn to them from the very beginning and loved talking with them and connecting with these little beauties. We clicked immediately and I was reminded how much I want to develop, coach, mentor, and be a role model for younger girls like this.

One evening they asked to see my Greatest Showman music videos I had made with other World Racers and one of them exclaimed “J.J., if you do another one, I want to be in it!”

And then of course the creative juices get flowing and an idea pops in my head.

We spent the next few days making our own music video to the song on the Greatest Showman soundtrack called “Never Enough.”

Of course, as a director and perfectionist, I let go of all expectations, wishes, and visions and we just have an absolute BLAST. This was my ministry to these two beautiful girls that I have grown to love so deeply. We created TOGETHER! They took part in directing, producing, choreographing, set design, costume design, and everything in between.

This video was made by a 5 year-old, 12 year-old, and a newly bruised 24 year-old.

I am absolutely amazed at how God brought my World Race team together with this beautiful family and I was given the small chance to use my creative abilities and my camera to create the sweetest memory.

This video is such a reminder of what I want to do for the rest of my life for younger girls- I wanna be their best friend and role model and use my creative abilities to do so.

I hope you enjoy this music video made by Kathryn and Kristina Boyd. This video is dedicated to them and my Abba Father who shows me that everything in this world is never enough, that He is my ultimate fulfillment.
