So today is our adventure day and what that means is we get to go out and explore, if we choose to, the country. Well during last month my squad and I were able to attend a Nicaraguan wedding that was held at our base site. I personally had never been to a wedding abroad before so I was all for it. Yes, it was 100% in Spanish but it was slightly different from the weddings back home. For example, there wasn’t a party with dancing. They did have a dinner with traditional Nicaraguan foods.
The 2nd wedding abroad I was able to “attend ” was my bestfriend’s wedding. Yes, she is back in the States and I’m in Costa Rica. So the question you may be asking yourself is how was I able to attend her wedding if I am still in Costa Rica? Simple answer is technology!!! There is this amazing app that I had never heard of until deciding to do the race last year. This app is called WhatsApp. It allows you to call, text, video and send pictures all through this app!!! It’s free and only needs wifi!!!
So, yes I physically wasn’t at the wedding but I got to talk to the bride and several of the bridesmaids before they lined up for the ceremony to begin. During the ceremony another friend readily agreed to hold the phone so I can watch 2 very important people in my life say their vows to each other. It’s not the same as actually being there but it’s the best I could do. I have no regrets staying on this route because this is where God has placed and called me. Yes it has been an emotional rollercoaster today but it would have been the same if I was home. Also wifi has been a lot stronger than last month.
