32 Reasons to Support Missions
1. God’s Biblical Mandate: He tells us to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” and that can be found in Matthew 28:19 (emphasis mine). Also see Romans 10:14.
2. It’s a chance to grow and stretch my own faith: I will grow through relationship with both my teammates and the people we serve. It’s not just what we get to go and do, but what God will do in us as we are there.
3. You get to be a part of it in sending me: In providing for this trip through your prayers and your finances, a part of you will go with me and you get to step out and up in big ways for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Don’t underestimate the power behind what your yes or even your no can do.
4. You love me: Missions matter to me. It’s an important part of my life. As part of loving me, you want to see me go. It makes me happy.
5. We are blessed for a reason: God gives us everything we need and more not so we can hoard it for ourselves, but so we can share what we have with others. Not doing so would make us selfish and God doesn’t like it when we’re only in it for ourselves.
6. The Lost Get Saved and the Kingdom of God Grows in Number: There are a lot of lost people out there. As we reach them and decisions to follow Christ are made, eternities are changed. As the sanctification of the saved begins, the Kingdom advances and it gets bigger. We want to bring as many people with us to Heaven as we can.
7. We change the world: As we go serve one another we bring love to dark places, love that perhaps had not been there before we did. As we love and out of that love decisions are made, the world becomes a bit more right and a bit more brighter.
8. Satisfaction: There’s nothing in this world for me to do that brings the most satisfaction in life like that found in helping others. It’s part of my DNA.
9. These are ordained days: As God was dreaming me up from before even being in my mother’s womb, He ordained these days to be. They are written in His book. (Read Psalm 139:16).
10. I’ve weighed the risks: Esther, before standing before the King, had a decision to make. She had to decide whether to ignore Mordecai’s response to help or to actually do something. I am like Esther. I can either choose to remain quiet and not go, or I can go and serve “for such a time as this.” I choose to go.
11. Bigger Perspective: Traveling outside of my little world will open up my eyes to other ways people are living. From past experience this can go one or both ways: I’ll come back grateful for how I’ve had it or how it is in the U.S.A., or I’ll be angry it is this way and want to change it. Pray with me for healthy doses of both.
12. I may get to put my degree to use: If in ministry I get to teach others English, then my English degree will get some good use. Life in ministry would also give me more stories to tell and/or write about later.
13. Children: We’re not supposed to have favorites, but there will be children and they are my favorite kind of human on Earth.
14. It will challenge me: Serving internationally can come with its own challenges. With language barriers, methods of travel and living, it can take me out of my comfort zone of what we find on American soil. I’m up for any of these challenges and choose to be challenged rather than bored.
15. Reward: It’s worth it.
16. The Cross: If Jesus can bleed out and die for us, we can send others out in His name. (Perhaps this should be reason enough, but I’ll keep going).
17. It honors God: We are to honor God with our first and our finest. God only asks of us 10% of our income. This is one area we are okay to test Him. Read about it in Malachi. We want to be honoring to God and part of honoring God comes in honoring our missionaries, the traveling feet of Jesus.
18. Your heart: God doesn’t care as much about your money as He does your heart. He asks for your money because He knows how the love of money can affect your heart.
19. Safe Investment: Giving to missions is a safe investment. He wants to heal what’s been broken by the humans of the church if you fear giving. God never planned for it to be that way.
20. It will give me experience: As I pursue future goals with God, being a part of a mission of this size and scope will prepare me and give me experience for attaining those future goals. One being starting my own organization to rehabilitate children in Ethiopia. I feel this will be a catalyst as to propel me forward.
21. The workers are few: You heard me right. It’s in the bible. The amount of people who are sent and going is less than that of those to be tended to in the field. (Matthew 9:37-38).
22. I’m willing: If I’m willing to go, you can be willing to send.
23. Source of Encouragement: This step out in faith can be what it takes to light a spark fueling the heart of God in the heart of His people. Let’s throw some gasoline on that fire.
24. JOY!: This.
(Yes I know he is a child but it does not fit under that category. It fits under this one).
25. Urgency: Time is of the essence. We don’t know when the Lord is coming back; we only know He will.
26. You need to hear their story: In sending out, you get to hear stories. You allow others the chance for their voice to be heard.
27. It’s not about us and our 9-5: It’s about Him and follower-ship.
28. Testing of faith: Both the goers and the senders may have a test of faith. It tests what we believe, how we believe and who we believe. Through it, lies are unveiled and truth can be told.
29. It’s worship: Simple as that.
30. You want to: “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
31. You get to: Not everyone reaches that heart level. Be grateful.
32. Shifts Focus: Serving others promotes healing and gets the focus off of ourselves.
