As I prepare to launch in September, I wanted to start researching each of the countries I'll be serving in. Most importantly, I wanted to look into the areas of ministry I might experience.
For the next 11 days, I'll be reasearching each of the countries and also letting each of you know a little bit about what I'll be experiencing!

Zimbabwe

When I’ll be in Zimbabwe: September
Where in Zimbabwe: I’ll find out this month!
Temperature: 54-79 degrees Fahrenheit
Points of Interest: Victoria Falls (World’s Largest Waterfall) & Hwange National Park

Type of Ministry I’ll be working with: (I’ll find out this month): Orphans due to AIDS/HIV

  • 1.5 million people in Zimbabwe, or 25 percent of people over the age of 15, are infected with HIV
  • Zimbabwe now has one of the lowest life expectancies on Earth – 44 for men and 43 for women
  • Infant mortality has risen from 5.9% in the late 1990s to 12.3% by 2004
  • An estimated 1.3 million Zimbabwean children are orphans – Orphaned children might be forced to drop out of school. Others will not access good health care. Most are traumatized because they watched their parents die.
