It seems that every day while here in Ecuador brings a new and fun experience. And I’m sure everyday on the World Race will be like that. And I plan to keep track of those. Now hopefully I don’t have a completely boring day.
- Day 1: Trying to find our hostal in the pouring rain.
- Day 2: Going to eat food at Vietnamese restaurant owned by an Irish guy in Quito, Ecuador.
- Day 3: Using a taxi and having the trunk fly open while driving up a mountain and then having the driver fall asleep while at a red light.
- Day 4: Went to the Equator today!
And here are some random thoughts from today that I need to process through:
Change:
We keep waiting for change. We keep waiting to be in our ministry placement so we can start ministry. But Newsflash: Ministry doesn’t wait. Ministry is every day no matter where we are: Ecuador, Peru or even at home. Why do we keep waiting when people don’t know the truth. Why do we keep waiting when people are lost and hurting. Ministry doesn’t just happen when we arrive in Huaticocha, but it starts now in Quito!
Ministry:
For some relaxing time, me and 2 others went to a coffee shop to relax for about 2 hours. In that time, I learned that even though we bought some gum from some street vendor kids, we bought more than gum. Relationship is key. And that is what we did. Instead of directly buying gum, we talked with the kids and built a relationship before buying the gum. Just as God desires a relationship with us, we should desire to build relationships with those around us to mimmick the relationship we have with our creator.
Tomorrow:
We are headed to Hauticocha: a 6 hour bus ride into the jungle. We have been warned about bed bugs and snakes. Our ministry seems to involve building. A girls dorm room and some other building. It should be good ministry. I am excited to see what the Lord will do during this time. I believe it will be a difficult month, but also one that pushes us and prepares us for the rest of the month.
I will not have much internet access for the next month. But I will update every time I can. Please keep my team in your prayers for health and safety and good ministry during this month in Ecuador. I love you all and thank you so much for your prayers and support!
