This time next year, I will be in South Africa. Celebrating Christmas. Who would have thought that would happen? I mean I always pictured myself in Peru during Christmastime, but never in Africa!!!! The only Christmases I have known have been in the States, So I know this will be an interesting experience. Christmas in South Africa will be during the summer!! Woah.
So knowing that next year during Christmas, I will be halfway around the world, this year I have decided to take in as much as I can. But it’s not really working like I thought it would. I mean I enjoy Christmas. I enjoy the lights and the snow (when we get some). But this year, I really learned about Christmas. That it’s not about presents or decorations or carols, but it is about Christ and God sending His son to earth to live as a human. Woah. What could be a better Christmas present than that. Who needs a million presents under the tree when God gave the ultimate gift over 2000 years ago!
About a month ago, mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas. My list had like nothing on it. Seriously. That is the first time that has ever happened. I remember when I was little, my list was like two pages long and now, it’s nonexistent. I decided for Christmas, I wanted stuff that I will use on the race. So I am getting a sleeping bag. A sleeping mat. A watch. Chacos. Eating utensils. All the stuff I would never really want for Christmas, but this year I need for my 11 month trek around the world.
Next year, who knows if I will receive any gifts, but in reality it doesn’t matter. Next year I will be living in another country, be in my 6th month of the World Race, and be living as a missionary everyday. What could be a better Christmas present than that?
Without Christ being born, there would be no death on the cross and no hope or salvation for the world.
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them…'Do not be afraid!' he said. 'I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!'
~ Luke 2:9-11
