It’s been awhile since I have fallen in love.
Before the race, I was absolutely head over heels for Peru. I had been there 3 times and was excited to go back for my 4th time while on the Race. Our first country was Ecuador, and though I was constantly looking forward to the next country (Peru), I didn’t think I would fall in love with Ecuador as much as I did. Since I was in love in Ecuador after a month I had a feeling I would feel the same after each country. I thought it would be so hard to choose just one! But so far on the race, I would have to say that Ecuador has been my favorite. No country, no ministry, no month has compared to that of Ecuador for me.
That is…. Until South Africa.
Cape Town, South Africa is amazing. I have enjoyed my month here and am super sad to see it coming to a close. I could definitely see myself serving here long term, but I know that God has more plans for me in 5 other countries.
This month has been AWESOME. I have learned and grown so much this month, it’s crazy. Here are some reasons why I have fallen in love with South Africa:
1. Playing soccer/hanging out with kids every day.
2. I don’t think I have ever been this tan/sunburnt in December/January.
3. Being able to walk to the beach daily.
4. Beautiful weather every day.
5. Cheap and delicious ice cream cones.
6. Opportunities to take kids from the township to Hillsong Church with us on Sundays.
7. Bringing 13 township kids to the beach with us one day.
8. Hiking a 7 Wonder of the World.
9. Feeling like a kid again.
10. Living in close community with Family Force 6. (It did take awhile though).
11. Getting to spend time with African Penguins.
12. Having relaxed ministry, but still finding ways to fill the free time.
13. Going swimming in shark infested waters while the shark alarm went off.
14. Making a difference in the life of a child, even if it is only one.
And I am sure the list could definitely go on, but I think you get the point. This month ranks up high for me. I still can’t decide between South Africa and Ecuador though. That is a tough one. Even though I can’t choose a favorite as of right now, I do know one thing. I am really going to miss Cape Town, South Africa.
