Family Force 6 just found out our ministry assignment for the next month! We are going to be working in Cape Town, South Africa!! Our ministry thus far will be: street kids- sports camps- maybe surfing.It is always subject to change as we have previously learned. But anything sounds pretty good to me while there! What an awesome month we have before us!
Ready for some facts about Cape Town?
– The 2nd most populous city in South Africa and the most popular tourist destination in the country.
– There is an estimated 3.5 million people living there.
– Summer is from November to March and is warm and dry with average max temp of 80 degrees.
– 41% of the residents speak Afrikaans and 30% speak English.
– 77% of the residents are Christian, 11% have no religion and 10% are Muslim.
I have heard rumors of some fun stuff to do: cage dive (with sharks), sky dive, hang glide, surf, bungee jump… what do you think I will do? My mom is probably thinking…none of the above Jamie.
How do we get from Oradea, Romania to Cape Town, South Africa? Good question!
We are leaving Oradea on Sunday via an overnight train. We arrive in Bucharest Monday morning. And head to the aiport. We get an afternoon flight to Qatar where we have an overnight layover and get to hang out in a hotel for a couple of hours. Then early Tuesday morning we will get on a flight that gets us to Johannesburg, South Africa. We arrive there Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night we will get a bus that drives us across South Africa (rumored to be 20 hours) in order to arrive in Cape Town on Wednesday afternoon!
