Flip-flops in Korce, Albania is not common. At least not during the fall, but today I wore mine. And a skirt. Trust me– I got plenty of stares (even more than usual). I did buy a pair of boots today so in the future I can fit in a little more.

Life here is pretty simple and laid back. We work with Crusade on campus Monday through Thursday. In the mornings we are on campus in some form and in the evening we make dorm visits. The Staff here is great, fun and very dedicated to the movement here in Korce.

We eat lunch as a team and then after we get time to hang out. So pretty much every lunch we try a new restaurant. Gyros, pizza, calzones, pasta, sandwiches. Whatever looks good and cheap we try out. Then we make our way to some type of coffee shop. I honestly think I have drunk more coffee this past week in Albania than I did my whole last year in the States! I may become dependent on cappuccinos here soon.

Hanging out at the Sky Cafe

After dorm visits in the evening it is back to my host’s house where I get a home-cooked Albanian meal. Which is always delicious, even if I am not a fan of the food. I am seeing nighttime as my family ministry time. I get the chance to hang out with our host’s family. Toni and Tola and they have two sons who are 6 & 2 and are a blast to play with. One night we were sword fighting (and sad to say, I lost—that’s why I am a princess, not meant to fight). I told Tola that we (Ashley and I) are her daughters for this month since she is stuck with boys all the time. She seemed pleased enough with that.

Me and Mattias

Tonight during family time, we even just sat in front of the TV watching The Voice of Albania. It goes to show that even worlds apart, families can enjoy the same thing, such as my mom and I in the states and Tola and Toni in Albania.

When I get tired, it’s back to our apartment for bed.

I am really enjoying the time here in Albania. It’s only been one week and I am excited for what the next two hold in store. The Lord is doing, and will continue to do great things here. Keep praying for the students and the ministry we are doing here.
