What I learned about being a mom while working in Peru…
Our first day of work, I had a pretty rough day. Well pretty much busy and non stop. As I sat after dinner, I began to reflect and process and to think about how my life was that of a mom. So I made a little story that I would like to share with you so you can see the parallels.
(Green is being a mom and Blue is what actually happened)
I wake up and have my only alone time for the day. I get to shower and think before anyone else is up.
(Just me and the Lord on the roof in Trujillo Peru looking at the Andes mountains.)
Then it is off to make breakfast for my 11 kids…not that I plan to have 11 kids!
(which is for my team and the other team that is staying with us.)
Once they are fed and content I can get ready.
(I have a little bit more Bible time before work.)
It is off to a day of work for me.
(It starts out with physical labor and moving sand with wheelbarrows.)
Then comes lunch which I again need to prepare, this time for only 3 kids and myself.
(2 team members are sick and can’t eat while the other team went out for lunch.)
After lunch and a little bit of relaxing time, it is back to the real world of work.
(Work this time involved digging a trench and then making concrete and filling that trench.)
And as usual, overtime does happen.
(we were supposed to be finished working at 4pm, but went until after 4:30 pm in order to finish the concrete job we were working on).
When I get off work, it is time to make dinner this time for all children and neighbors.
(Get out a big pot, put the chicken in. add the potatoes. Add the noodles. Add some seasoning and call it done. all my team and the other team ate and we shared with our contacts)
Then feel thankful that I have 11 kids and hopefully one of them will do dishes.
(One of my team members did dishes.)
Sit after dinner reflecting on the day.
(Feeling exhausted after working all day nonstop.)
Now add a husband into this mix…….
So that is my story. I learned about the hard work of being a mom all while doing ministry in Trujillo, Peru!
Hope you enjoyed!
