What does this describe? Training camp. You gussed it!
Training camp… who knows that to expect. 2 others and I decided to roadtrip to camp. Denver, Colorado to Copperhill, Tennessee. Wanna know the driving time there? 23 hours. I know insane. But there were some perks to driving for 3 days before camp.
1. It was cheaper. Instead of a plane ticket, I roughly spent $180 on gas and lodging.
2. It gave a time to process before camp. Rather than be thrown in the World Race Training Camp scene, I was able to mentally prepare for it.
3. Create some friendships before camp even began
On the way to camp, we stopped in Kansas City, MO and on Lake Kentucky. We made it through the states: Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

SO camp is over and time to go home. Again driving. This time it takes 25 hours. We decided to take the southern route home. It was a little longer but keep things fun and save us from driving through the whole state of Kansas again (though Oklahoma was not much better). We stopped in Memphis, TN and Amarillo, TX. This time we made it through the states: Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.

7 states each way. Not too bad if you ask me.
We were close to going through 1/3 of the U.S.
Only 2.6 more states 😉
Perks to driving home were:
1. Again cheaper
2. The ability to ease back into the ‘real’ world. The ability to mentally prepare/process is so important
3. To debrief with those in the car about the week at camp
Though it was longer and sometimes more annoying to drive, it was totally worth it. It was beneficial and if I had to choose I would definitely do it again. I was able to make it through 7 states I had never been through before and my biggest accomplishment was that…. I got to drive in them all!
2 weeks. 14 states. 3,029 miles. 1 unforgettable journey.
