2 inches= 5.08 centimeters

Who knew such a short distance could make such a difference in one’s life? Well today it made all the difference in mine. Today, from our ministry host, a truck was a stolen by a group of Peruvians. On our way to lunch at the usual Menu, we saw the truck. Actually I saw the truck up close and personal. As in it was only 2 inches away.

We are walking down a street which we walk down every day and we know rarely has any cars, so we weren’t on any particular watch for cars on the road. Emily and I were pretty close to the left side of the road and next thing we know a truck is in between me and the wall. Barely enough room, but he squeezed through. As the truck passes, we realize we recognize the truck and honestly I blamed the Ecuadorians that are working with us.

Getting back to the house after lunch we find out what happened while we were away. And the truck, the family truck, which almost hit me, was being driven by a Peruvian who had just stolen it in a pretty violent battle.  The truck that went past me was part of something so much more than I even recognized at the time.

And now my head is full of questions. What if the truck would have hit me, would the driver have stopped? Probably not, because he was on the get-away from thievery.  Did the driver intentionally try to hit the gringa (white girl)? Probably.  What if I would have gotten hit, how bad would I have been hurt? That answer can range.

All day the enemy was feeding me lies that my part in today’s events were unimportant. That how I was feeling and that those 2 inches were insignificant. That I shouldn’t bother anyone about my thoughts about the day. But those 2 inches made all the difference for me. And though I would be playing the ‘What if’ game. Those 2 inches mean everything. Without those 2 inches, all the ‘What ifs’ would have come true.

So I only have one thing to say about today:
Thank you Lord for 2 inches. I know it was Your hand protecting me today.
