We were asked to write a blog
about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I’m
expecting…

I’m expecting that no matter
how I feel right now or what thoughts I have between now and next July that
everything will change when it comes time to actually leave.

“A thing long expected takes
the form of the unexpected when at last it comes”

~Mark Twain

This Mark Twain quote pretty
much says it all.  There is no way
that I can know what to expect on this trip. There is no way that I can begin
to guess about the plans God has for me. Instead I will try to expect the
unexpected and simply go into this knowing that:

I will have doubts

I will find myself in
situations where I cannot rely on myself or others, but only on God

I will cry many tears…and God
will count them all.

I will be homesick

I will learn more about myself
and the world than I ever have before

I will be amazed by the beauty
of God’s creation

I will be uncomfortable

I will have to eat foods that I
cannot identify…and may not want to

I will realize just how
fortunate I am to have been born where I was

I will become angry about the
injustice of the world

I will fall in love with many
people, and have to say many goodbyes

I will be CHANGED.
