I’ve officially been in Maseru, Lesotho for 17 days. I can’t believe the first month is almost over. My first week of ministry, I realized that I had come in with all kinds of expectations about what areas of ministry I was going to be involved in. I thought I would work very closely with children this month, but God had a different plan. The two ministries he began leading me to were the ones I was most uncomfortable with and nervous about. I knew that if I only did what was easy, I wouldn’t lean on him to move through me. I told Him I don’t know what I’m doing. Are you sure, God? He was sure and over the next few weeks I would begin to see why.
On Monday’s and Wednesday’s me and my teammate, Kimmy began leading devotionals for House Mothers at the Beautiful Dream Society Kids House. When it was my turn to lead, he began putting verses on my heart for these mothers. Even when I had no plan and had no idea what I would say, he showed up and made our time with them more beautiful than what I could have ever imagined. We began forming relationships with these precious ladies and I began to see the overwhelming love they had for these children that they had taken in as their own when no one else wanted them. These mothers have truly inspired me and blessed me more than I could have ever done in return.
Monday through Thursdays I’ve been reading with at risk boys at a ministry called Sopheo. It was started be a couple who saw a need and decided to be apart of the solution. These boys were at one time on the streets, but they decided to start a free school for them. As long as they are sleeping at home, they can come to school every day. They feed them, teach them, love them and introduce them to Jesus. I’ve had the honor of reading with these teenage boys, encouraging them, teaching them English and getting to know them. They’re so smart and probably the most amazing soccer players I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing to see what they’re doing with these boys and how their life is changing in response to it. “When I grow up, I want to a man of God,” one of them told our team.
The Lord has truly exceeded my expectations this month!
