My team is great. We have laughed, cried, joked, worshipped, and prayed together since being on the field. It’s been hard, and it’s been fun. When we were told that our ministry this month would be Unsung Heroes, we were ecstatic.

Unsung Heroes: Searching for ministries within your given country to make partners with Adventures In Missions for future racers; searching for people who serve God and follow Jesus willingly and wholeheartedly who deserve recognition.

All we had to do was load the bus at 8:00am on August 28th to depart from Bankia, Bulgaria, ride for 12 hours, unload in Brasov, Romania and partake in our first debrief! As soon as debrief was over, we went to work. We started writing emails and posting statuses on Facebook. We were ready to build relationships! The next thing we knew, we had contacts in other cities. It was awesome.

On the way back to our hostel, we were all joking about finding ministry contacts in our current location. We had contacts in Sighisorea, Beius, Cluj-Napoca, Târgue-Mures, and Bucharest, but none in Brasov. We turned the corner to enter the alley where our hostel was located when Kristen pointed out a rectangular, maroon sign that none of us have ever noticed. It said “Firm Foundations” with a white cross below the words. Jokingly, she said, “I wonder if that’s a Christian organization. Ha! Unsung contact number one… right in front of our nose.” We all laughed and never thought anything of it, but Jessica, being the inquisitive one that she is, looked it up.

… and what do you know? It was a Christian organization! She found their page on Facebook and their website. Their mission is to support and assist disadvantaged children and families in distress. With further investigation, she sent them an email explaining who we were and they set up a meeting! Guys, the office is literally steps away from our hostel door.

On meeting day, Jessica and I walked downstairs, stopped in the stairwell to pray before we entered their domain. We waltzed into the office with nothing except guidance from the Holy Spirit. We trusted God and His timing. We trusted that our God was a God of detail and it was no mistake that this organization was so close to where we were. We sat at the table and talked. It was the most relaxed meeting I’ve ever experienced. It was easy. They shared their hearts for God, and what they believed He was doing in their lives and inside their organization. We shared details about our team and The World Race.

One of Firm Foundation’s projects is helping with pediatrics at the local hospital. They work in shifts to hold/coddle babies, pass out diapers, and help change/feed the babies. Jessica and I were stoked to serve with them the following day. I mean… seriously?! Holding babies for ministry? Done son.
