So today is my birthday. As I was walking through Wal-Mart last night, buying some birthday Milk Duds, I reflected on my last year. I graduated college, I moved out of the house, I moved back in the house, my brother got engaged, and I made a decision on how I was to spend my next year. As I was driving through Sonic, buying myself birthday cheesesticks, I thought about the year to come. There are things I will miss; my brother’s wedding, other weddings, friends, family, and comfort. There are things I will experience; new families, new friends, fun, danger, excitment, boredom. I must say I had some internal conflict over these two reflections.
Now that I’ve lived almost a quarter of my life (I’m shooting for and eleventyfirst birthday), I feel like I’m making a shift from one “age” to another (to use another Lord of the Rings reference. But I’ll keep them all in quotes). I’m looking forward to this next year, and this next phase of my life. And I also look forward to going there and back again (that’s a Hobbit quote).
