So God is good! There is really no better way to put
it. We are not even a month into
our “World Race” and we are sleeping in a nice house on nice beds; we have warm
showers, hot meals, free internet two days a week, and amazing kids to work and
play with. Then, to top it all
off, our host takes us on a vacation.
His wife had been on holiday up in the Bay of Islands where her parents
own a private island, and he needed to pick her up. Well, out of the kindness of his heart he decided to drag us
along. We drove three hours
north to the Bay of Islands; then preceded to take not one, but two boats to
get to the island, the first of which was a (free) 3-hour dolphin boat ride
(typically $90 per person) where we encountered a school of dolphins playfully showing
off to us and incredible, painting-like scenery. From the dolphin boat we hopped onto a small outboard
motorboat for a short ride over to our own private island where we would be
staying for the night. That
afternoon was spent kayaking in lagoon-esque water and snorkeling in the
shallow water. The next morning we
woke for a beautiful sunrise over a distant island, where the sun glistened on
the lake-like water as my feet dug into sandy grass just a few feet off of our
front porch. Just a few hours
later we departed on a three hour hike around the island during which we
encountered unreal scenic overlooks, stood in front of landscapes that could be
paintings, walked along rocky beaches, explored an inlet cave as the tide came
in, I could not have asked
for a better vacation, nor afforded anything similar in my lifetime…. So all I
can really say is God is good!
